*** Things are Happening! ***

Things are happening in Israel! Jews for Jesus, an international evangelistic organization, is ready to become our partner for the Hebrew website.

Things are also happening in Indonesia. We are testing an original evangelism approach in French via Facebook. Did you know that in Jakarta alone (capital of Indonesia) there are 17 million Facebook users? We are now in contact with an organization in the country for our first steps. Let’s pray…

Curious to see our Facebook version of ConnaitreDieu? Click on this link: http://tinyurl.com/connaitredieu Great, isn’t it? I like it!

Our “video learning platform” is ready. TopFormations is already running on it and soon we are going to use it to offer training specifically for people new to the faith like “12 Days to Discover the Bible” or “40 Days with Jesus”.

Take heart, friends. The journey will be long, but our cause is wonderful.

*** Hope for the Japanese! ***

March 11, 2011 will remain an infamous date for Japan. That day, the country was hit by a powerful earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale, causing a devastating tsunami. The human and material losses were heavy! The events that followed would confirm it!

Perhaps, right now, Japan is no longer in the headlines, but the painful Japanese reality has not changed. Beyond the material losses and the nuclear consequences that no one can ignore, what about the moral injury the Japanese suffered? How can they grieve and believe that this will not happen again? Japan is one of the countries in the world the most vulnerable to earthquakes. The country has one fifth of the world’s earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater. In this context, where does one find peace? How does one heal and forget the past? How does one plan for the future with hope for a better tomorrow?

In our view, the answer lies in the one the Bible calls the Rock of Ages, Jesus Christ! We believe he is the only one who can make all things new! For several years, it has been the desire of our heart to reach the Japanese through the Internet, and ever since the tsunami, we have felt an urgency in our hearts. Action is needed now, not in 10 or 15 years! It is today, at the heart of their suffering, distress, deprivation, and trauma of all kinds that the Japanese need to hear this message of hope of the Gospel!

And God, who knows our hearts, permitted the opening of a “Jesus.net” office in Yokohama, Japan, just a few days ago. Our local partner, Andy Game, had already begun to mobilize people in prayer and action for Japan at the time that the tragic events struck Japan. There is already a movement in place, and here is the website: http://www.crashjapan.com/

Today, after months of prayer and effort, Andy has an official office on site. These premises were leased through the generosity of  the former owners, committed Christians, who rented their property at a reasonable price. These people have exercised their generosity, as many of you have done for us to be current owners of the Top Chrétien property.

For years, these premises were used for prayer for the city but also for the nations. And this action will be able to continue. Indeed, in these offices several meetings will be held, each one as rich as the other: pastoral meetings, e-coach training for the spiritual follow-up of Internet users who are searching, and non-stop prayer meetings twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

As of September, our partners in Japan will launch an exciting new project called “Hope for Life” in collaboration with several ministries. In April 2011, just one month after the disaster, partners from the Netherlands and Switzerland went to Japan to design the strategy and the websites for Japan. The KnowingGod website, 5 landing pages, and a WhyJesus website in Japanese are also being prepared and will be launched in the coming months. In addition, 10 video testimonies are being made to show God in the lives of the Japanese people. What grace to know that soon we will see displayed on the Google Earth map, real-time decisions of spiritually-seeking Japanese!

Our desire is that these offices serve to build the unity of Christ’s body, to create a passion for prayer, and also to find new ways to reach people searching on the Internet. It is a small stone in the edifice that God is building in Japan, but we pray that it triggers a spiritual tsunami. Below are some pictures of the offices purchased:

I think the most important need for the Japanese is that they know the only true God and His son, Jesus Christ! May these new Jesus.net offices in Japan be visited by the presence of God and may millions of Japanese hear the Gospel on the Internet and through new technologies!

Also, pray that lives are changed, support our partners in Japan in prayer or financially if God puts it on your heart. To do this, please contact us here and mention “Japan” in the notes so that your donation is specifically earmarked for this project!

*** Parlez-vous anglais? ***

No, this is not a language test. It’s an opportunity for me to announce with great joy the launch of a new family website designed by Top Chrétien/Jesus.net in partnership with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA).

The name of this website is PeaceWithGod.net.

It’s actually an adapted KnowingGod.net website. It is designed around John 3:16 and every section of the website is part of this verse. Section one is “God so loved the world”, telling of God’s love through a new version of the Father’s love letter with the voices of Billy and Franklin Graham. This is a must see video. I like it a lot. Watch it here, in world preview below! I’m already thinking of the millions of people who will be reached by this video. Wow this is great! Good job Duane Gaylord and all the BGEA team! Of course, all the glory to God because all this exists for Him!

These are the following sections: “that he gave his only son” (a nice animation on the cross), “so that whoever believes in him” (some great testimonies of changed lives), “not perish” (an excellent message by Billy Graham on the importance of being saved), “but have eternal life” (a beautiful call to salvation and the decision by Franklin Graham).

The website has been launched after months of intense work and lots of traveling. I could not wait to see it online so that people searching for God can find Him!

Remember us in your prayers. May the Lord inspire us, make us inspiring and renew our strength! We really need him! Leave me a word of encouragement or prayer if you wish. We would really appreciate it.

God bless America and God bless you, my friends!

Together for changed lives,

*** ICC: A Relevant Church! ***

ICC Church (Impact Centre Chrétien), whose services we appreciate every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. (Paris time) on Top Chretien, is going to launch two very interesting initiatives using new technology.  “Think outside of the box,” say the Anglo-Saxons. That’s just what Pastor Yvan Castanou does, and I welcome his initiatives that I’ll share with you in this blog.

Many churches do not yet understand that using new technology should be an integral part of the life and development of a church. Why should it be? Quite simply because new technology is part of people’s daily life today! “Go all over the world,” Jesus said! We can go with emails, with websites, with Facebook, with text messages, with Knowing God, etc.; so many tools just as effective as a sound system and a video-projector!

Our study of Knowing God Internet users shows us that 100% of them visit a church’s website before visiting the church. Thus, it is extremely important for a church to be present and visible on the Internet. Besides, it is for this reason that we launched MonEglise.net, to fill somewhat the technological gap, and help Internet users understand what a local church is so that they want to go to one!

Today, new technology allows the church to go beyond its “locality”! So why not take advantage of it? ICC, therefore, is going to launch two promising initiatives in this direction:

-A multi-site conference with Myles Munroe as the speaker. Myles Munroe is an excellent preacher and a marvelous conference speaker. Sponsored by the CEAF- http://www.ceaf.fr (Community of Churches of African Expression in France), this conference is offered to all local churches that would like to broadcast it live. It will take place Thursday, June 10 to Sunday, June 13, 2010. I encourage pastors and all Christian groups to register on the website http://parisleadershipconference.com. You will need an Internet connection, a video-projector, and a meeting place. If you, as an individual, would like to follow this conference, you will need to go to one of these broadcast places. However, nothing stops you from creating your own meeting place for the broadcast if you are a group of Christians. You must hurry though! It’s coming very soon! And, I think this conference will be a great blessing for all those who follow it.

-The second initiative is courageous, and I am anxious to see the fruits with lots of enthusiasm! ICC is going to open up, as a beginning, three other meeting places, but keep only one church. How are they going to do this? By gathering people together in meeting places or hotel conference rooms in the north, in the east, and in the west of Paris and broadcasting the Sunday morning services live from ICC auditorium. In fact, the praise and worship can be done locally but the preaching of the Word of God will come from the main service. In summary, it’s one church but many meeting places united through the Internet. As a result, I think that ICC is going to have an extraordinary impact in the years to come throughout the French-speaking world. I also think that many people are going to discover Jesus as Savior.

I have been convinced for several months now that churches should grasp this vision and do the same. I welcomed, at ICC by the way, an entire pastoral team from Lifechurch.tv. They are the pioneers in the domain of multi-site churches. They have a church in Oklahoma City and 15 meeting places all over the United States. They originated the YouVersion, the free Bible for iPhone. They are also the initiators of ChurchOnline, an internet church that encouraged me a lot. (I’ll talk to you about it another time.) Thirty pastors responded to the invitation. The general idea is that we can move the church to where the people live, and therefore, increase the impact of a local church or a particular ministry. In other words, multiply the number of meeting places by broadcasting the services through Internet, and thus, increase the impact of a church.

I understand that this new model of the church doesn’t suit everyone! But I believe that it is very biblical that a particular ministry of teacher, evangelist or prophet not be confined to only one meeting place. We have always defended the idea that these ministries should be itinerant, and rightly so. Today, there are other means of going, and the Internet gives us the opportunity. So why not seize it! Why shouldn’t the church use this technology to reach cities and even islands everywhere in the world, especially where there is no pastor!

I congratulate Pastor Yvan Castanou and ICC Church for opening up this new way. For goodness sake, let’s avoid petty criticism, and let’s try to encourage creative and innovative initiatives for the Kingdom of God, in any case, at least on Top Chretien. I count on you for that!

Allow me to ask you this question: “Do you think that the actual model of operating our churches is sacred? Or do you think that we should use all means at our disposal to spread the knowledge of Jesus Christ?” I will be very interested in knowing your opinion.

*** Quality is never an accident ***

Someone once said, Quality is never an accident. It’s always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and talented execution.

Besides, isn’t this what God demonstrated by his extraordinary creation? High intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and talented execution?

God expects the best from us for his work. Let’s drop the “just abouts”, the mediocrity, and let’s seek quality. Let’s pursue excellence in every project we endeavor.

One day, a father gave some advice to his son: Whatever work you do, just always do more than what is expected of you, and you will never miss out on a promotion. You will finish at the very top!

Jesus said that to the one who is faithful in the little things, he will entrust greater things.

Gideon was still threshing wheat when God already saw him as a valliant hero, a liberator! God knew that Gideon was going to give his best and count on God, whatever the circumstances.

No matter where you come from, you can accomplish exploits for God. But this will be done in stages. At each stage, pursue excellence, give the best of yourself. Then, move to the next stage. Don’t shoot too high or too far before even beginning, but seek to do a quality job of whatever is entrusted to you. And I am sure that God will take you far!

At Top Chretien, we believe that God wants to take us further. But we are aware that we need each one of you to get there. What can we do together to improve the quality of Top Chretien? I would truly like to have your opinion.

*** Could TopChretien Promote Marriage for Single Christians? ***

By asking this question, I know that I am going to stir up some very different reactions. However, my goal is not to create a controversy, and even less, disputes among us, but to approach this question with understanding. I think that certain singles really suffer, and I not only want to sympathize, but to help the best I can.

Neither do I have in mind a project to create a “Christian meeting.” Lots of websites for meetings between Christians already exist, but I don’t know if they function well or if they are effective. In fact, I am truly concerned, even burdened for Christian singles. I have the privilege to be married to a marvelous wife, and I have three terrific children. I would like many others to have the privilege of establishing a home and a family with the values of the Gospel.

I am sad to see Christians who get old without marrying and who cry over it. Some are really fantastic, and I tell myself what they lack is perhaps just getting out of their environment, sometimes a little closed, and having the possibility of being connected to other Christian singles. Now, who says connecting with others can mean the Internet!

I know that we can answer in a very spiritual way that this is God’s affair, and that they only have to pray and God will bless them and allow them to meet their soul mates. This is not wrong, but it doesn’t always happen like that! I believe God always has his role, but there is our role as well. We can also answer in a very dishonest way that Internet is horrible, and that we shouldn’t use the world’s methods. I believe that Internet is like a Swiss knife: one can use it for good or for evil; everything depends upon the objective we are pursuing. Besides, I would like to have the testimonies of Christians who are married today and who met on the Internet. This would help us in our understanding.

So then, what can we do? How can we help singles through Top Chretien? Do you have any ideas? What would you recommend to a single who is waiting in church and would like to be married? Thank you for your participation. Together, let’s make things happen!

*** Anti-Internet or "The Little Flock" Syndrome ***

I would like to propose to you the following blog written by Pastor Jean-Claude Guillaume. Jean-Claude, 81 years old, is a brother and friend, who has served the Lord with his wife Rakel for sixty years! Here’s the blog for your consideration…

I scrolled through the Internet users’ enthusiastic reactions to Eric Célérier’s blog “To the Ends of the Earth…“, which appeared February 5, 2010. Our brother recalls the modest beginnings of Top Chretien and its astounding development, with ConnaitreDieu.com in fifteen languages and its marvelous results. To the question that he asks at the end “Do you think that evangelism by internet is worth it?”, it seems evident that the only possible response would be an overwhelming, frank YES, and the Internet users were not mistaken on this point!

Nevertheless, I remarked that many of them alluded to a certain fringe of Anti-Internet, or perhaps we should say AntiTop Chretien diehards. Granted, this isn’t new, provided that the race of those “against all those for and for all those against” is far from being in danger of extinction!

It is interesting to ask ourselves about the deep-rooted causes of such an attitude. Let’s mention rapidly certain low-level reasons, such as frustrations, jealousies, diverse complexes, etc. it’s not worth paying much attention to them.

An idea came to me that certain persons of more noble intentions, could be infected, without their knowing it, by what I call “The Little Flock Syndrome”. Very impressed by the numerical disproportion between the Christian world and the ungodly world, these people seem to find refuge in a certain Scripture verse which, for them, has become the norm:

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32

Everything that precedes this verse is an exhortation by Jesus not to worry, even if we are only “a little flock”. However, this expression Jesus uses was never meant to be an apology for smallness, or narrow-mindedness, not to say mediocrity! Even so, this is what certain believed to have understood, and they have developed a kind of spiritual agoraphobia, that is to say a fear of all that is large and that evokes admiration.

From this fear comes, for example, the development of a suspicion towards the largest evangelical church in the world “Yoido Full Gospel Church” in Seoul, South Korea. My wife and I had the privilege to visit this extraordinary church in 1978 when it counted only 64,000 members, and which today numbers more than 800,000. In fact, its founder, David Yonggi Cho, a remarkable man of God, whom I knew very well since I was his interpreter several times, is suspected by certain “little flockists” of using shamanistic practices!

Then, you understand, more than 15 million people who have visited ConnaitreDieu.com and 1.5 million people who have said: “I prayed to receive Jesus Christ into my life!” – it’s shady, it doesn’t work with the idea of “The Little Flock”!

How God wants to make the scales fall from our eyes and make us understand that if he is the God of “The Little Flock”, he is also the God of the universe!

Jean-Claude Guillaume

And you, what do you think?

*** Let’s Help Haiti ***

On the Web, Internet users are mobilizing (See this article). “ We are all Haitians. Our heart is over there, and we are going to help you”, summarizes a certain Pat on the group “Come to Haiti’s Aid”, created on Facebook just a few hours after the announcement of the catastrophe.

If you follow this link, you will find the Google News articles related to this earthquake. Three million people could be affected! (See the France Television videos)

So, together let’s help Haiti. Let’s show our affection and our compassion, especially as Christians.

How can we help?

  1. By praying for those who suffer, for their families, for their rescue, … Let’s lift our voices up to the Lord for Haiti!
  2. By encouraging the Haitians that we know and who are often anxious, for they have no news from their families. And if you don’t know any Haitians, just follow this link. More than 2,000 members of Top Chretien are Haitian. Write something on their page and tell them that you are with them and their families. The day that they can reconnect, they will be happy to learn that the family of God was mobilized for them.
  3. By giving a gift. Our TopHumanitarian Partner, SEL (Support and Liaison Service), is mobilized to help Haiti and has just opened an emergency fund. Six hundred children are already sponsored in Haiti through SEL. You can gift your gift directly to SEL or through Top Chretien’s secure gift solutions. One hundred percent of the gifts received will be transferred, and Top Chretien will pay for all fees incurred for this operation. The Top is already committed to a project called “A Heart for Haiti”. Thank you to the Board of Directors of our organization “TopMission” for its response and generosity.

Would you consider this call for help in prayer?

Leave your comments on this blog to tell us what you think or to send a prayer.
